Last week I attended a Melanoma awareness course at MelanomaMe. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for 16 years and I thought I knew enough about Melanoma already but this course was a huge eye opener. I really did learn so much more. This is a fantastic course and I would highly recommend that anyone working within the beauty, health and wellbeing industry attend, to help raise awareness amongst your clients. Kerry and Elaine are both fabulous ladies and are amazing at what they do, offering an amazing service to patients and their families affected by this awful disease.

Everyone should watch & learn …. we in the cosmetic industry are “eyes in the people’s backs “ this is on the increase because ppl don’t want to talk about it , they like the sun , don’t we all… but we need to be sun safe & look after our bodies , today I learnt not all melanomas are sun related. These girls are just lovely . They have personal experiences so can relate to the disease. 3 hrs of your time could save a life.

Today I completed the therapist melanoma awareness course and can honestly say I’m so pleased I went and done it, these ladies gave me a so much information it was very eye opening, so many things i didnt know or realise could be associated with melanoma. I’ve came away feeling like I want to be more involved, I need to make people more aware, so firstly I’m going to start with my family. Its also give me more confidence to approach my clients if I need to ever. Hopefully think of something to help with the funding side along the way….100% recommend doing this course! I am a hairdresser and I Completed this course today and so pleased I did. There is so much more to know about melanoma than we imagine, it can’t always be a simple ‘cut it out ‘ and not typically moles that you might imagine, brilliant course the girls are fabulous and doing an amazing job, we all need to become more knowledgeable on this subject we should all attend this course. The new guidelines for GDPR come into force 25th May 2018. MelanomaMe. holds data classified as “personal data” and “sensitive personal data” This information is held both manually and on computer. Where the company holds files or information on an individual, they are held on them to comply with the project requirements. They can view manual files by putting requests in writing giving a 24 hour notice. No information will be used for direct promotion or sold or passed to third parties unless agreed with the service user and in case of young people their parent’s consent. All information is stored securely in locked cabinets. All data held on computer is only accessible by authorised staff members via a password. Counselling information will be held under a coded correspondence that can’t be linked to a service users name or contact details. Personal information will be deleted from messages or emails and stored as above. Service user’s data will only be collected for the purpose of referral information and held for a maximum of 7 years after no longer accessing MelanomaMe’s services. All service users are given the option to opt out of email, telephone or text messages. Service users have the right to ask for their information to be taken of MelaonmaMe’s accessible data. However, counselling information will be kept securely filed as above and only accessed if the service user gives written permission, to which this will then be correctly destroyed after 7 years of the service users no longer accessing MelanomaMe’s services.
